School and Program Improvement

The services provided by the Montgomery County Intermediate Unit Curriculum, Instruction and Professional Development Division with respect to school and program improvement, include training on the use and implementation of the Assessment Anchors and their related tools. A wide variety of content-specific professional development activities and continuing professional education programs have are also available. These services are designed to be reactive to the needs of schools identified for school improvement as well as proactive to the needs of schools in terms of improving professional practice to meet the needs of all students. District or building specific services are provided as requested in consultation with district trainers.

Getting Results School Improvement Framework

The Curriculum, Instruction and Professional Development Division is available to assist school districts in the use of the Getting Results School Improvement Framework to proactively plan for improving student academic achievement. The Getting Results Framework is also used to develop school improvement plans required under the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001.

During 2008-2009 the staff in CIPD will facilitate workshops and work sessions to assist districts in completing the Getting Results document.

 

Local Self Study

 

The Curriculum, Instruction and Professional Development Division is available to assist with LSS.  This is an assessment and intervention tool that is designed for school-level review and operates with district-level leadership.  A team of educators looks for areas of potential strengths/weaknesses and barriers in focus/vision, data, quality leadership, quality teaching, infrastructure, learning ethic, and community.  LSS is designed for use by schools that wish to establish a systematic approach for continuous school improvement.
