SEPaST - Southeastern Pennsylvania Schools Trust
Twenty school entities in Montgomery County joined together in 2010 to form SEPaST for the initial purpose of self insuring prescription drug benefits. The trust is governed by twenty trustees, one delegate representing each entity, and managed by an executive committee of seven elected members. SEPaST is administered by the MCIU.
In the spring of 2010, SEPaST solicited proposals through an RFP process which yielded a 3 year contract for administrative fees, Rx discounts and rebates reducing program costs. SEPaST continues to move forward with the goal of self insuring the medical portion of employee benefits effective July 1, 2012.

Energy Consortium
The Intermediate Unit coordinates the pooled resources of its local school districts to take advantage of any savings opportunities for electricity, natural gas, fuel oil and transportation gasoline consumption. By utilizing the services of a licensed broker, the energy markets are continually monitored for optimum savings and competitive bidding decisions. Heating and cooling buildings and maintaining transportation services are a very large and growing budget concern for schools nationally. The importance of understanding cost savings in this environment has never been greater.
The past several years resulted in millions of dollars being been saved on a county-wide basis. The energy market has proven to be very volatile during this same timeframe and staying current with fuel trends is a valuable service.
