Federal Programs for Nonpublic Schools
Title I Districts
Title I is a federally funded program that provides supplemental educational services (remedial reading and mathematics support) to eligible students in Montgomery County. As part of a district’s Title I grant, there is an equitable participation component for eligible Title I students in the nonpublic schools who live within the attendance area of a participating public school in the district. Each district determines how it will provide Title I services in consultation with officials of the private schools for their students in nonpublic schools. Currently fifteen public school districts within Montgomery Country contract with the Montgomery County Intermediate Unit to deliver these services via the Nonpublic School Services Division. In turn, the NPSS provides reading and/or math support to these students as well as forwarding the required compliance documentation to individual districts for these services.
The sixteen school districts who contracted with the NPSS of the MCIU for the 2010-11 school year are the following: Abington, Cheltenham, Colonial, Jenkintown, Lower Merion, Norristown Area, North Penn, Perkiomen Valley, Pottsgrove, Pottstown, Springfield, Spring-Ford, Upper Dublin, Upper Merion, Upper Moreland, and Wissahickon.
