Special Projects
The Technology and Information Services (TIS) Division coordinates many special projects on behalf of the Montgomery County School Districts. A few of these services are listed below.
Consultation and Leadership
Our staff can assist with the technology planning process and may serve on planning committees at district’s request. The director and other technology administrators are readily available to support local school district initiatives, as needed.
eBay Auction Service
eBay is a great tool for auctioning obsolete equipment for a school district. The TIS division will coordinate all aspects of the online posting and will also pack and ship the item to the winning bidder.

eRate
eRate is a federal program for schools and libraries that provides a discount on telecommunications and Internet services. TIS can complete the entire application process from bid to reimbursement.
Moodle
Moodle, a web-based learning management system, is now available for online course and community development.

Online Course Development
MCIU can create multimedia driven, interactive learning modules. Audio, video, animation, and custom navigation can be integrated into any learning management system, such as Moodle and Blackboard. Our team can help to design live, real-time, synchronous courses using Elluminate technology.
PowerSchool Student Information System Consortium
MCIU partnered with Pearson in 2007 to provide licensing, implementation, support, hosting and training for the PowerSchool Student Information System. Districts can save money and receive local support by purchasing through this partnership.
Project Management Services
For those technology initiatives that require more in-depth planning, control, and execution, we offer project management services. Utilizing the latest project management methodologies, tools, and techniques, we can help complete your project on time, within budget, and exceed your stakeholder expectations. The cost for this service will be quoted, based on the specific requirements of the project. Initial consultations are provided free of charge.
Technology Program Evaluations
MCIU’s Technology Evaluation Process is designed to help districts assess the quality and effectiveness of technology programs, and generate information to assist with decision making regarding infrastructure, integration and professional development.
Technology Planning
TIS staff can facilitate the technology planning process as required by the eStrategic Planning tool. Current technology plans are required for state level funding and for eRate participation.
