The Montgomery County Intermediate Unit partners with higher education institutes to offer graduate level courses. The courses our held a the MCIU making it a convenient choice for teachers to advance their careers. The programs include Master's degrees, administration certifications, Superintendent's Letter of Eligibility and a variety of graduate level courses in many subject areas.

Continuing Professional Education

Beginning July 1, 2000, Act 48 of 1999 required persons holding Pennsylvania professional educator certification to complete continuing education requirements every five years in order to maintain their certificates as active. The MCIU offers a variety of Continuing Professional Education courses for either CPE credit or graduate credit through partnering universities.

  
 
Through a collaborative agreement with the Montgomery County Intermediate Unit certain Continuing Education Courses facilitated through the MCIU are offered for graduate credit. You should verify with your employer which type of credit is required for pay scale movement. 
 
 
Through a partnership with the Montgomery County Intermediate Unit, Saint Joseph's University offers courses in the following Master's in Education and Certificate programs.

  • Principal Certification
  • Curriculum Supervisor Certification

The Professional Institute for Educators|The University of the Arts

Through a partnership with the Montgomery County Intermediate Unit, The University of the Arts/PIE offers a unique opportunity providing teachers in many subject areas and grade levels graduate level courses in the visual and performing arts, technology and education.

Drexel University’s School of Education is proud to offer three educational administration programs to benefit Intermediate Unit members in their continuing effort to advance their careers.

Ed.D. in Educational Leadership and Management* (Executive Weekend Format)

·         Prepares candidates to creatively and strategically lead in complex educational environments.

·         Offers multiple track options: Education Administration (Superintendent Certification), Educational Policy, Higher   Education, Human Resource Development, Special Education Leadership (Supervisor of Special Education Certification – also offered as a post bac) and Athletic Administration.

M.S. in Educational Administration: Collaborative Leadership (Online)

·    Offers innovative training based on a framework of state and national leadership standards for instructors and counselors to become school administrators.

·    Includes an option for Principal Certification.

M.S. in Special Education (Online)

·    Prepares educators for certification to make a difference in the lives of students with disabilities.

·    Highly interactive and experiential

·    Offers concentrations in: Autism Spectrum Disorders, Technologies in Special Education and Language and Cultural Issues.
