MCIU Technology Integration Workshops
Descriptions of potential workshops that support technology integration. Register for these as they become listed in the MCIU online registration system. Become a Moodling Teacher
Learn to develop a web presence to support your students using Moodle, a course management software. In this course you will develop an understanding of the Moodle system, and learn about collaboration tools such as discussion forums and wikis, easy ways to share files even outside of school, and how to customize your web location.
Become an Elluminate Presenter
Learn Elluminate tools for conducting webinars for classroom activities, meetings, and other professional activities. Here are a few ideas for what you can do using Elluminate: Develop online, interactive activities using the built-in whiteboard. Create surveys and assessments with the quiz-making tool. Conduct demonstrations and lessons using application sharing. Take students on web tours. Collaborate with other schools on class projects, literature circles, etc.
Bringing Interactivity to the Classroom Using Technology Tools
By including interactive web sites, readily available online software applications, and direction in lesson design, this workshop presents a package that will make for a livelier, more motivating classroom
Discovery Education Streaming and SMART Board: Perfect Together
This workshop focuses on using the SMART Board Notebook with Discovery Education Streaming resources to develop technology infused lessons. Can be offered as a two-day workshop or as one-day each (Level 1 and Level 2).
e-Missions: Real-Life Crises Brought into Your Classroom
This training prepares teachers to conduct classroom simulations using missions designed by the Challenger Learning Center. The missions apply cross-curricular, call upon students to work collaboratively to solve problems, and give real-world reasons for work done in the classroom.
Expand Your Inspiration
Expand your use of Inspiration software to address 21st Century Skills. Using Inspiration for data organization helps students analyze, evaluate, and think critically about it. This visual manipulation assists communication by helping them structure their work so they can integrate what’s relevant into their writing and other presentations.
Explore and Analyze with InspireData
Assist your students to actively explore and analyze data using dynamic Venn, bar, stack, pie and axis plots to interpret information and draw conclusions.

Inspiration for English Language Learners
Tap into the visual learning value offered by Kidspiration (for K-5) and Inspiration (grades 6-adult) when addressing the needs of your English Language Learners. These graphic organizers help students visually represent information and convey their understanding even before they have mastered the vocabulary for communicating in English. Use them for language acquisition, comprehension, expression, and critical thinking.
Introduction to netTrekker
This is an introduction to NetTrekker, a free resource for PA teachers and students for finding educational resources on the Internet. Get a teacher account, search for and save resources, make use of netTrekker’s differentiated instruction tools. Learn to save and share your searches with students and colleagues.
Introduction to Web 2.0 for the Classroom
This Web 2.0 workshop introduces many free online tools that provide teachers with new ways to encourage students to communicate, collaborate, and publish their work. It focuses on social bookmarking for resource sharing, simple collaboration tools, and an array of tools for student expression.collaboration web2 wiki
Office Visit
This workshop helps teachers extend their use of MS Office (XP or Mac 2004) programs (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) to develop educational materials and activities.
Podcasting: How Can You Use It?
This is an introduction to audio and video podcasts, their use in the classroom, and how to produce your own.

SMART Board Academy
This two-day workshop introduces the beginning SMART Board user to techniques for using the electronic whiteboard effectively. Teachers will not only learn to use the SMART Board, but will review lessons and create activities for their own class.

SMART Board Basics
This workshop is designed for beginning users of the SMART Brand interactive whiteboard. Participants will understand the capabilities of the SMART Board as a whiteboard as well as the use of the SMART Notebook including the Gallery of clipart and interactive tools. They will learn how to customize toolbars, launch and interact with applications, and find and review resources at the SMART web site. This is a hands-on workshop during which teachers will have lots of practice.

SMART Board Intermediate
This workshop is designed for intermediate users of the SMART Brand interactive whiteboard. Participants will review basics skills, then spend time seeing and deconstructing examples of lessons using the SMART Notebook. They will learn tools not introduced during the basic class, and have hands-on-the-board practice time. There will be ample opportunity to develop and/or adapt lessons for classroom use.

Supporting Diverse Learners with Technology
Use the technology available to you to meet the needs of your learners. Differentiate your instruction using free tools from the Internet, software you already have—word processors, graphics software, and graphic organizers, for example—to give students a variety of ways to access content, develop understanding, and show what they know. Find and incorporate materials with high student interest. Learn to edit material to meet student needs.
Tell a Story Simply
During this digital storytelling workshop, teachers will learn to develop stories and use multimedia to produce and share them. They will create photo, video, and audio products.
Thinkfinity Awareness Session
Thinkfinity is a database of interactive tools and resouces for teachers and students. Partner sites include ArtsEdge, EconEdLink, EDSITEment, Illuminations, Literacy Network, ReadWriteThink, Science NetLinks, Smithsonian's History Explorer, and Xpeditions.
Video Production Using Windows MovieMaker
Learn to use this free video editing software to create lessons with visual impact and to assist students in creating their own videos. Edit downloadable video, such as from Discovery Education Streaming, to create just the clip you want for your activity. Use still photos. Add audio and voiceovers, and more.
