Below are activities being offered for children in at the end of the school year.
Camp Ophelia offers a cost-free program for middle school girls enrolled in nonpublic schools in Montgomery County. Camp Ophelia was founded by Dr. Cheryl Dellasega of Penn State University, to enable girls to learn positive relational skills. Camp Ophelia offers a safe place for girls to gather and connect in positive ways. High school mentors help to educate girls about relational aggression: what it is, who is involved and why it might happen. Participants are empowered to build healthy, positive relationships with each other through sound decision making, conflict resolution, communication and other key life skills. Sessions are held at Gwynedd Mercy High School and Mt. St. Joseph Academy. These schools have graciously agreed to host the camp sessions which will be directed by members of the Office of Non-Public Services counseling staff. Students from Gwynedd Mercy Academy and Mt. St. Joseph Academy will serve as camp mentors.
Boys’ Leadership Camp
Montgomery County Intermediate Unit, Office of Non-Public Services in cooperation with LaSalle College High School, offers a Boys’ Leadership Camp for middle school aged boys enrolled in nonpublic schools in Montgomery County. This cost-free camp will provide a leadership experience for boys. They will join in activities that help young boys become healthy young leaders of tomorrow by focusing on the four domains of leadership: self-awareness, self-management, social awareness and relationship management. High school boys from LaSalle College High School will serve as mentors and they will be responsible for guiding small groups of boys through self-discovery and team-building activities. Members of the Office of Non-Public Services counseling staff will direct the camp and have developed the program with the goal of meeting the special developmental needs of middle school-aged boys.
Jump Start to First Grade
Montgomery County Intermediate Unit, Office of Non-Public Services, in cooperation with French International School, Gwynedd Mercy Academy, and St. Francis School offers a Jump Start to First Grade camp for students entering 1st grade and enrolled in nonpublic schools in Montgomery County. This cost-free camp is facilitated by reading and math specialists from the MCIU Office of Non-Public Services The students are engaged in a variety of hands-on activities and games to reinforce beginning reading and math concepts, specifically, Early Number Concepts, Listening, Speaking, Phonemic Awareness, and Vocabulary Development.
Mind Fun Camp
Montgomery County Intermediate Unit, Office of Non-Public School Services, in cooperation with Ancillae-Assumpta Academy, offers Mind Fun Camp for 4th and 5th grade students enrolled in nonpublic schools in Montgomery County. This cost-free camp is a week-long morning camp designed by the ONPS reading and math staff to provide a program focused on building comprehension, phonics and syllabication, math concepts and applications as students utilize skills, conceptual understandings, and strategies to access learning.
Leadership Camp at Lansdale Catholic
Montgomery County Intermediate Unit, Office of Non-Public Services, in cooperation with Lansdale Catholic High School, offers a Leadership Camp for 6th and 7th grade boys and girls with mentors from Lansdale Catholic working with the middle school students through self-discovery and team-building activities.
Negotiating the College Process
Montgomery County Intermediate Unit, Office of Non-Public Services, in cooperation with Pope John Paul High School, offers a camp which focus is on enabling incoming high school seniors to effectively tackle the college admission process. Topics spanning the use of the Naviance Interest Profiler, writing the application essay, admission interview techniques and researching SAT resources will be among those covered.
