The goal of the Office of Student Services of MCIU is to provide innovative programs and services to our school districts in a fiscally responsible manner.  MCIU ensures that there is a full continuum of service delivery models through our specialized classroom programs, itinerant programs and supplementary services.  Currently, our referrals from the district are usually children with severe disabilities in the categories of autism, emotional disturbance, mental retardation, and multiple disabilities.  Montgomery County IU also serves a significant number of district students with hearing and/or vision impairments.  Most of these students are serviced with itinerant support in their home district buildings.

The MCIU responds to the needs identified by the member districts and offers student evaluations and transition services.  In addition to direct student support, the IU also offers supplementary services.  These services may include behavior management specialists, psychological services, specialized evaluations, program support consultation, staff development and special education program reviews of the school district.   In addition, the Anderson School provides for districts seeking academic and behavioral supports for students within general education.  New services are continuously added to meet the changing needs of our school districts.

In addition, MCIU has provided networking and similar job forums for school districts.  Opportunities to meet with job-alike colleagues in the area of Pupil Services, Psychology, Counselors and Health and Physical Education have been additional new resources provided to the school districts.  Lastly, the Office of Student Services has been working closely with the Office of Professional Learning on development of training for subgroups who are not meeting adequate yearly progress, the response to intervention model and the paraeducator training required each year.  MCIU has prepared numerous brochures, flyers and program descriptions in an effort to clearly delineate and market new services in response to the school districts within Montgomery County.
